Become Aware & Take Action

So many issues of persecution and injustice around the world need our prayer and advocacy. Many need our urgent attention

We have begun sending out email alerts to our friends who have signed up on the web site as Religious Liberty subscribers. These are issues for which we have included an action or set of actions that you can take to make a difference, right now

But some folks find our website through press releases, radio interviews, etc. and have not (yet!) signed on as Religious Liberty subscribers. So we will now post these action alerts on the website, as a downloadable resource.

Some of these alerts will ask you to contact your member of Congress, some will ask you to write a letter to the newspaper or to tell all your friends on Facebook, Twitter, and other social metworking site about the issue. But ALL of them require your prayer.

The first email alert we posted was about the horrific persecution of Christians in India that has been taking place (this bout of persecution) since August. We sent updates to our email subscribers biweekly month and we have included follow-up to the original BECOME AWARE AND TAKE ACTION email.

If you would like to subscribe to the Religious Liberty newsletter, please register on the IRD website. Once logged-in, click on "My E-Mail Subscriptions," and select "Religious Liberty."

This is a non-exhaustive list of resources that we have found helpful in providing information and education about Islam, the global scope of jihad, and militant Islamic insurgency in North America and Europe. These are not resources for evangelism, how to share one’s faith with Muslims, etc. Remember that Islam is a system, but Muslims are people. We may despise the system, but we love the people. In this list, we are talking about the system.

It's time to take action on Sudan and South Sudan. Faith McDonnell explains a few simple steps that can make a big difference.

Here is a complete list of the Caucus members.

  • What You Can Do for the Persecuted Church--Part 2

Find out how you can help advocates for religious liberty in political office!

"Within the pews of the churches in America there is great potential for action – if church members take seriously their responsibility as members of the same Body of Christ with brothers and sisters who are suffering. But without members of Congress who also care and are willing to act on behalf of the persecuted, not much could be accomplished in terms of government action."

Find out how  you can help those who rights are under threat!

"When I first learned about the persecution of Christians and other people of faith around the world, the primary means of communication was a written letter.  Thankfully, letter writing still works."

"One of the reasons that people don’t want to know about the egregious persecution of Christians around the world is that it makes them feel helpless. 'What can we do?' they demand. But every person has the ability to be an advocate for the persecuted if they are informed about the various avenues of advocacy. A better question is 'What can we do?'”

"Although we are in the midst of Ten Thursdays of Prayer for China’s Church, we are interrupting our series for a special Religious Liberty Alert on recent attacks on Christians in Nigeria. Our brothers and sisters in Nigeria need your prayers and your voices. And, if you are anywhere in the New York City area, they need your presence at a rally for Nigeria’s Christians on April 7, outside the Nigerian Permanent Mission in the United States."

  • Eritrea

"IRD has been monitoring human rights and religious freedom violations in Eritrea since 2002. Eritrea is an egregious violator of human rights. It has an abysmal record with the U.S. State Department’s report on human rights. It has also been listed as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) by the State Department’s Office on Religious Freedom since 2004.

In addition, Eritrea continues to be named as a Country of Particular Concern by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), which advises that the conditions for religious freedom in Eritrea appear to have worsened over the past year, and include arbitrary arrests and detention without charge of members of unregistered religious groups, and the torture or other ill‐treatment of hundreds of persons on account of their religion, sometimes resulting in death."

  • India

"Christians in India are suffering tremendous persecution at the hands of radical Hindus."

"TAKE ACTION: Contact your Member of Congress – call, write, email, or take a group of concerned friends and show up at his/her office and urge him/her to co‐sponsor Congressman Akin’s resolution #434 on religious violence in India. If they are already a co‐sponsor, thank them. You can find members’ contact info at http://www.house.gov/."

"FOLLOW‐UP ON ACTION: As of November 19, 2008, U.S. Representative Todd Akin’s bill still has only seven co‐sponsors, and has been stuck with no action in the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. Please urge your member of Congress to sign on to the bill in the next session of Congress, when it will need to be re‐introduced."
