United Methodist Amendments Advocate “Global Segregation”
Mark Tooley
April 1, 2009

In May and June, annual conferences throughout United Methodism in the U.S. will vote on a series of constitutional amendments for our church that facilitate the creation of a new U.S. Regional Conference. (Overseas conferences have already started voting.) Why is this important? The attached articles offers an excellent explanation. But in summary, a new U.S. Regional Conference would allow the U.S. part of United Methodism to deliberate over U.S. church issues without African, Filipino and European United Methodists. This potentially could lead to the U.S. church establishing its own standards regarding marriage and ordination. It is only thanks to the African and other international delegates that United Methodism has upheld biblical standards about homosexuality. Liberals increasingly resent the growing African influence in our church and know they cannot win when the African churches are growing and the U.S. church declines, unless they can at least partially separate the U.S. church from the African churches. (3.5 million United Methodists live outside the U.S. while 7.9 million live in the U.S.) Please do read the attached article and share it with your pastor and the lay member from your church who will attend annual conference.
